The SCCS aims to address the root causes of cancer and other chronic diseases. Between 2002 and 2009, the study recruited approximately 85,000 adults aged 40 to 79 years living in the southeastern United States of America. Approximately two-thirds of participants self-identified as Black. Participants complete periodic follow-up assessments and are passively followed via linkage to external registries.
