SPC is an ongoing perspective birth cohort that enrolled over 1,000 mother-infant pairs between 2012 and 2013 from two large hospitals in Shanghai; the Xinhua Hospital and the International Peace Maternity and Child Health Hospital. A total of 1,140 pregnant women and their new-born babies were enrolled in the study at these two hospitals between 29 and 41 weeks of gestational age. The mean age of the mothers at the time of delivery was 29.2 years, and 97.3% of them were of Han ethnicity. After birth, the children were followed-up once a year by paediatricians.
