Sample details

SPIROMICS is a multi-center study of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), aiming to identify the causes of the disease and aid in the development of therapies. Beginning in 2010, the study includes 2,981 participants from 12 sites across the United States of America. Participants are individuals aged 40 to 80 years, consisting of non-smokers, smokers, and those with COPD. The participants are followed up quarterly through phone calls and visited annually in monitoring health status. After 2015, the study was extended through SPIROMICS II, which continued to follow an original 1,397 participants of SPIROMICS.
