Sample details

SPS is the largest panel survey in Chile, designed to compile socioeconomic and demographic information on the Chilean population, informing public policy. In 2002, SPS recruited pension system members from all 16 regions of Chile. At baseline in 2002, over 17,000 individuals were included in the survey. In 2004, additional participants were recruited to form a nationally representative sample. Additional participants have been recruited at every wave since 2004 to ensure the sample remains nationally representative. Participants have been followed up eight times to date, in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2016, 2020, and 2024. Since 2009, participants have also been followed up through linked administrative data.
