SCCS focuses on understanding the natural history and improving the management of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection by following participants from across Switzerland. Adults aged at least 18 who have HCV antibodies were recruited from Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, Zurich, Lugano, Neuchâtel, and St. Gallen. As of 2020, the study has over 5,800 participants, whose median age is 42. Participants are followed up every 6 to 12 months to monitor their health and the progression of the infection.
