The Danish Birth Cohort Studies were set up to assess secular trends in the health and functioning of the very old. These studies include 4 birth cohorts of participants born in 1895, 1905, 1910, and 1915 in Denmark. The 1905 Danish Birth Cohort included over 2,000 participants. Males had a higher participation rate, and non-participants had a higher six-month mortality rate than participants. The sample included 20% of proxy interviewees.
