The effect of antenatal depression on birth weight among newborns in South Gondar zone, Northwest Ethiopia

A community-based cohort was recruited at Debre Tabor and Woreta towns, which are situated in the South Gondar zone, from June 2019 to March 2019 in the Northwest of Ethiopia. Pregnant women who were in their 2nd and 3rd trimesters, living in Debre Tabor and Woreta Towns for at least the preceding 6 months, and without any cognitive or hearing impairment during the study period, were included. Among the mother participants, 43% were between the ages of 25 and 29, and the mean maternal age was 27.1 years. The majority of women (92.6%) were Orthodox Christians by religion, and 92% were married.
