The aim of this study was to investigate the long-term changes in self-rated health, in the prevalence of preventive and health behaviour, and in the strength of the association between educational level and self-rated health, while also taking gender differences into account. The sample comprised individuals aged 65 and over who had been included in the Austrian Micro-Census. Face-to-face questionnaire interviews were conducted, and the sample was representative of the Austrian population of the respective age group.
