U-CAN is a longitudinal collection of data and blood and tissue samples from cancer patients in Sweden. Initially, recruitment targeted patients with brain tumours, colorectal cancers, haematological malignancies, and prostate cancers and was later extended to include gynaecological cancers, breast cancers, neuroendocrine tumours, and lung cancers. Patients recruited into U-CAN are adults diagnosed with any of the selected cancer types living in either the Uppsala or Västerbotten counties, or that have been referred to the two university hospitals for diagnosis, treatment, and/or follow-up from surrounding counties. Over 12,000 cancer patients had been included in U-CAN as of the end of 2016.
