Vadu HDSS is a surveillance system that was initiated in India in 2002 and is run by the Vadu Rural Health Program of the KEM Hospital Research Center in Pune. Every year, the Vadu HDSS collects data on pregnancies, births, marriages, migrations, and deaths and assesses causes of deaths using verbal autopsies in a population of 200,000 individuals residing in around 55,000 households in 22 villages. Various sub-cohorts have been established within Vadu HDSS to investigate specific health conditions, such as non-communicable diseases and cognitive functioning.
