Vantaa 85+ aimed to investigate the epidemiology and prognosis of neuropathological disease and functional capacity in very elderly people. The cohort involved residents in the City of Vantaa, Finland, who were 85 years old or older in 1991. A total of 601 people were invited, with 533 completing the baseline assessment from 1991 to 1992. Follow-up assessments were conducted in 1994, 1996, 1999, and 2001, with neuropathological examinations conducted on 304 participants. The study was completed in 2001, after 10 years.
