Sample details

VITAL aimed to investigate the associations of supplement use with cancer risk. Specific goals focus on the associations of supplemental vitamin C, vitamin E, calcium, and multivitamins with prostate, female breast, lung, and colorectal cancer incidence. Participants were over 77,000 men and women aged 50 to 76 years in western Washington State, United States of America. Baseline assessment was completed from 2000 to 2002, and passive follow-up of cancer incidence and mortality was conducted until 2010 using government data and the SEER cancer registry.
