The West of Scotland Twenty-07 study follows three cohorts born 20 years apart. At recruitment, the cohorts were approximately 15, 35 and 55 years of age, with birth years of approximately 1932, 1952, and 1972. The study aims to follow the cohorts for 20 years, to collect 60 years worth of data, covering: the transition from adolescence to working life, working life, and the transition from working life to retirement. A subsample of participants selected were of South Asian, primarily Punjabi, heritage. The 1987/88 sample was representative of the geographical area when compared to 1991 census data.
