Washington Heights-Inwood Columbia Aging Project I (WHICAP I)

WHICAP I recruited elderly adults from the Washington Heights and Inwood communities in northern Manhattan, New York. Eligible participants were at least 65 years old, Medicare beneficiaries, living in the designated communities, spoke English or Spanish, and could give informed consent to participate in the study. This resulted in a baseline cohort of over 2,100 participants at baseline. Participants were from Caribbean Hispanic, African-American, and Caucasian backgrounds and had various socioeconomic circumstances.
