WHISTLER investigates the prevention of respiratory illness in children using a cohort study in the Netherlands. Between 2002 and 2013, the study recruited newborn babies from Leidsche Rijn in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Over 2,400 newborns completed the baseline data collection sweep. Participants were followed up monthly during the first year of life and at ages 3, 5, 8, and between 12 and 16 years.
