Sample details

Whitehall II follows a cohort of over 10,300 people who worked in the British Civil Service between 1985-1988. The cohort captures civil servants working in the London offices of 20 Whitehall departments, in clerical and office support grades, middle-ranking executive grades, and senior administrative grades, and differing widely in salary. Some have remained in the civil service, though many have retired, have taken employment elsewhere or are unemployed.
