WTBC investigates the genetic and environmental factors influencing health and development in twins using a cohort from Wuhan, China. Once a twin pregnancy was confirmed, participants whose mothers were aged at least 18 years and living in Wuhan city were recruited in the first trimester. The first recruitment resulted in over 6,000 twin pairs entering the study, and subsequent recruitment efforts have increased the participant number to over 13,928 twin pairs, meaning over 27,000 participants. The study follows a diverse demographic of twins from birth, with comprehensive and periodic health examinations conducted from the first trimester of pregnancy up to 18 years of age. Follow-up assessments are conducted periodically to monitor the health and development of the participants throughout the study duration.
