This cohort aimed to investigate the nature and extent of occupational disability among construction workers in Germany. Participants were male plumbers, carpenters, painters, plasterers, bricklayers, and unskilled workers or labourers aged 25 to 64 years recruited from Württemberg, Germany, between 1986 and 1992. Over 18,000 workers completed the baseline data collection sweep. Participants were followed up until 1999 using the national pension register to ascertain vital status, disability pension and retirement age, among other factors.
