Sample details

The Wuwei Cohort is an ongoing prospective cohort study in Wuwei Municipality, Gansu Province, China. As gastric cancer is commonly seen in an elderly population, the study team included participants aged from 35 to 70 years. Nine towns were chosen based on their population size on the first stage of recruitment. Then, 100 villages were selected randomly from all villages, using probability proportional to population size in the second stage. The mean age of the sample at baseline was 51 years. Of the participants, 52.7% were females. The majority (93.7%) of the participants were farmers.
