Sample details

YFS investigates the factors contributing to cardiovascular risk using a prospective cohort of 3,596 children and adolescents (baseline age 3-18 years) established in 1980. Participants and their parents were recruited from five Finnish cities with medical schools (Helsinki, Kuopio, Oulu, Tampere, Turku) and their surrounding rural areas. The cohort has been followed up eight times with large-scale field studies in 1983, 1986, 1989, 1992, 2001, 2007, 2011, and 2018-2020.
