This study aimed to investigate the adaptive functioning of hyperactive children into young adulthood. Over 150 participants considered hyperactive at the age of 4 to 12 years were recruited from child psychology services in Wisconsin, Massachusetts, the United States of America. Around 80 community control participants of the same age were recruited through the families of the hyperactive children, who referred friends to the study. Participants completed baseline assessment from 1979 to 1980 and were followed up twice: from 1987 to 1988 and from 1992 to 1996.
