The Zimbabwe Manufacturing Firm Survey aimed to assess the performance, structure, and labour dynamics of formal and informal manufacturing firms in Zimbabwe. It comprised 326 manufacturing firms (195 formal and 131 informal) and 1,558 workers (1,385 in formal firms and 173 in informal firms) located in four major urban centres in Zimbabwe: Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare, and Gweru/Kwekwe. Owners of firms and their workers were recruited in 2015 using stratified cluster sampling for formal firms (based on size, industry, and location) and area-based sampling for informal firms. Some formal firms were also recruited via re-contact from the 1993-1995 Regional Programme on Enterprise Development (RPED) surveys. Participants were followed up once via telephone between October and December 2016.
